Gut Healthy Foods Part 1

The small intestine is approximately 23 feet long. It has a very important role. The majority of vitamins and minerals in the foods you eat are absorbed by the small intestine. The small intestine contains very tiny openings so the nutrients can be broken down and transferred into our blood stream. It is very selective. It only allows certain molecules and nutrients to pass through and blocks toxins and undigested foods. However, if we are not eating gut healthy foods, the tiny openings gets stretched out – almost like a hole in a net. When the hole gets larger and larger, toxins and undigested food passes through and seeps into the blood stream then circulates throughout the body. We call this “Leaky Gut”.

Some of the symptoms of a “Leaky Gut” can include food allergies, seasonal allergies, asthma, bloating, gas, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), chronic fatigue, joint pain, arthritis, mood issues, thyroid imbalances, weakened immune system, malabsorption of nutrients, Type I Diabetes, skin rashes, acne, eczema and autism.

At our last RaJeunir Medical Center Gut Health event, we invited you into our kitchen. We taught you how to make gut healthy foods that you can implement immediately to heal and seal your gut.

One of our all-time favorite is Organic Green Tea, Raw Honey and Aloe Vera. When we eat our bodies turn food into energy. It is important for us to nourish our body with foods that can easily be digested and broken down into useful energy allowing our gut to function properly.

Organic Green Tea – It is known for its high antioxidants properties. Eastern Medicine uses it to treat diseases because of its medicinal properties. These properties are brain protective. It contains catechin compounds which have protective effects on the neurons and an amino acid L-Theanine that has a calming effect improving brain function. Green tea is great for metabolism. It is added to weight loss protocols because it is known to mobilize fatty acids from the fat tissues and making them available for use as energy.

Organic Raw Honey – It is also another great source of antioxidants. Raw Honey helps to strengthen the immune system because it has both, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Recent research indicated that raw honey is proven as an effective treatment for H. pylori, common cause of peptic ulcer. It contains vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6) and the following minerals, iron, zinc, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, selenium. Some refer raw honey as a natural probiotic (the GOOD stomach flora). Raw honey is sometimes use to reduces inflammatory markers such as homocysteine – cardiovascular marker for heart disease.

Aloe Vera – It is use in our detoxification protocol. The soft gel-like absorbs the toxins and move it to the colon for elimination. Aloe vera is high in vitamins A, C, E, Folic Acid, Choline – good for the brain!, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12. It also contains minerals such as, calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, sodium, iron, potassium, copper, manganese. It has amino acids and fatty acids (campesterol and B-sitosterol which helps to lower bad cholesterol fats in blood. Aloe vera also supports immune system because it contains linoleic acid, myristc, caprylic, oleic, palmitic and stearic which are helpful in reducing symptoms of allergies and indigestion. Aloe vera is commonly use in the cosmetic industry because it is great for the skin.
